Periodontology
Periodontology: periodontitis causes tooth loss four times as often as the dreaded caries does. It is among the most common infectious diseases in the mouth cavity. Symptoms of periodontitis are gum swelling, bone destruction and bleeding of gums while brushing teeth. Expectant mothers, cardiac patients, diabetics and asthmatics are particularly affected.
The decisive factors of successful treatment of periodontitis is a complete germ reduction in the deepest periodontal (gum) pockets and the reconstruction of lost tissue. The dental roots are cleaned and planed with specialized instruments under local anaesthesia, so called calculus (hardened dental plaque) is removed.
